Ms. Heather is wonderful!!!  I am amazed by Emma's improvement within the last 10 months.  We started in April 2010, no one could tell us why Emma was not talking well.   She was so frustrated and screamed all the time. We keep hearing she was a late talker at the age of 4 1/2.  We saw Ms. Heather and after 10 minutes she was able to tell us that Emma had Apraxia.   Scared to death of what that meant, Heather explained to us what apraxia was and how she would be able to help Emma.  Emma went from saying 1 or 2 words at a time to now saying 3-5 word phrases.  We have along road ahead, but with Ms. Healther's help I have hope that Emma will be very successful with speaking. Our services include comprehensive speech and language assessments, followed by individualized treatment programs designed to meet the specific needs of the client.  Once a treatment plan is developed and reviewed with the client and family the assigned therapist begins working to maximize the individual's potential.

It is our mission to provide the highest quality of services to our families. Within the office we service children and adults with a variety of disabilities including autism, apraxia, feeding disorders, articulation disorders, auditory processing, feeding/swallowing disorders, aphasia, cognitive linguistic, voice and fluency.

The therapists in the office are licensed and bring their own unique style to the office.  A total communication approach is used pairing pictures, sign language and verbal prompts to elicit language.  For young children therapy needs to be motivating and fun.  The children quickly learn what is expected and fall into routine.  They enjoy therapy through play.  One of the first goals which is targeted is task completion.  We use a variety of picture schedules to help the children transition and understand expectations.  As therapy progresses each child's treatment plan is adjusted and modified as needed with the ultimate goal of reducing the number of supports necessary for them to be successful.  Our ultimate goal is for communication unprompted!

For our articulation caseload understanding their tongue and how it moves is a crucial step.  Easier said than done for the young child! Each therapist designs a fun filled warmup using a variety of fun filled treats.  The child learns to stick out their tongue and get the nerds from a lollipop or get the lick stick off the spot to elevate their tongue.  So often the starting point begins with building muscle tone and strength so as to move their articulators independently.  Prompt therapy is frequently used to address these weaknesses.
